Anthony Davis Fined $50,000 for Trade Demand

This won’t be the superstar’s first NBA charge

As if there couldn’t be more buzz around Anthony Davis as of late, the Pelicans forward has just been fined $50K by the NBA on Tuesday.

The light fine to the player with a projected $25,434,263 salary (HoopsyHype) was apparently for violating the Collective Bargaining Agreement when his agent, Rich Paul, made Davis’s trade demands public, according to CBS Sports.

News about Davis wanting to be traded surfaced on Monday, sparking an investigation into the matter and prompting the fine after Paul told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that his client "wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship”.

Paul also told ESPN, “Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions, and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now. That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organization’s future.”

According to the NBA, Paul’s comments were "an intentional effort to undermine the contractual relationship between Davis and the Pelicans."

Davis was once before fined $25,000 in December of 2017 for verbally abusing a game official.

The superstar still stands by his decision to forgo an extension with the Pelicans, with a number of teams already suspected to make offers.

In the meantime, Davis will need to recover from a left index finger injury before returning to the courts, which could fortunately be as soon as this week (ESPN).
