Predictably so, things aren’t getting any better for the troubled Warriors.
The hodgepodge Golden State team lost 129-112 to the Houston Rockets in Wednesday night’s matchup that saw 30-year old James Harden truly playing at the top of his game.
Harden brought a steep 36 points to the Rockets, in addition to 13 assists - with a total of 292 points across the season’s eight games (36.5 points per game average). This is the highest point total across eight games since MJ did it during the 1988-89 season with 303 points.
Warriors rookie Eric Paschall, who brought 19 points to Houston, was seen struggling to guard Harden throughout the game.
"It's just hard because he's so dynamic and he's a great passer," said Paschall of Harden.
"And during his (isolation plays), you can't really touch him because he's so smart on how he draws the fouls. As a team, we did a good job in the first half, but then he got hot and started hitting 3s."
Aside from Harden, the Rockets’ P.J. Tucker brought 22 points and 11 rebounds, Clint Cappella brought 19 points and 16 rebounds, Russell Westbrook brought 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists with Austin Rivers adding 12 points.
"I didn't like our shot selection as a team tonight," said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.
”I didn't think we played for each other. I thought we were driving to try to score instead of driving to try to score instead of driving to try to move the ball to someone on the team who can make the next play."
With so many injured players including Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson who won’t be making a magical full recovery overnight, all that the Warriors can do for now is take Kerr’s advice, and pray for the best.
